I am so excited and happy about one of my poems was selected among 131 proposals in an art exchange and it is going to be displayed in Seoul Korea in the galery in which the actor Yoo Ah-in is a curator and director. It was a proposal of bartering or trading an item for another item. I sent my poem Longing for Stardust, translated by google to Korean, then in Spanish and then a translation in English made first by Google and then adapted by me. The point of the sending the poem was more to express how languages permeate and how technology is shaping communications. How at deep level and even far away and different cultures we, as humans are the same. It was a humble intention in sharing my words. How would I know they would be considered persuasive or valuable? Do I have to say that he is my most admired actor? He is also a writer and works in many ways to improve the world.
I have always been amazed how languages conform to a country's culture. For me learning and understanding a language is a way of knowing its people. I have tried to learn some Korean, now Japanese, before I tried French, some German and some Italian, even only enough to understand or to express the minimum courtesy words (I cannot say I succeeded it), even though those languages amaze me in many ways. Nowadays using the translation technology in Instagram, Facebook, allows us to understand more other countries and words from their people. That is how I came with the idea of participating, I could read the invitation made by the actor, and the requirements, not even thinking my poem could be selected. How I came with the idea?, it was just a moment of inspiration. I know that translating into Korean by Google could result even in a fun or weird meaning, that's why I translated into English using Google and polish it until it got at least some resemblance of the original poem in Spanish. Perhaps some skillful translator or interpreter that masters the 3 languages could get the perfect meaning. The idea that only who speaks the 3 languages could grasp the intention and feeling of the poem, is in my point of view a very attractive and complex skill. I am delighted and grateful just for the experience of being in contact with Studioconcrete, the painter Chulhwa and what can I say about the great actor Yoo Ah-in.
